from organizers of JACL "Resisters of Conscience" ceremony
December 20, 2001 Dear Friends, Due to the late start on the Resisters of Conscience ceremony in San Francisco targeted for February 10th, our planning committee is attempting to postpone this important event until April or May. Unfortunately, the short lead time has made it difficult to raise needed monies for the ceremony lacking funding from the National JACL, to secure adequate community facilities for the event, and to organize an effective program. We are currently working with the National JACL to accept postponing the February 10th ceremony until spring - April or May. This extra time could help us put together a stronger educational program that would better recognize the constitutional stand of the resisters, unite our community, and provide some leadership on this issue from the JACL. We hope to hear within the next one or two weeks on this postponement proposal. When we get some word on this, I will be in contact. Thank you, Florin JACL Chapter President And this from a previous message: December 9, 2001 ... Besides the program itself, we are inviting those who have information on the resisters to have an exhibit/table. For those who are selling items we will be asking for a portion of the proceeds to go towards the event. Due to the National JACL financial problems, we are receiving no monies from National JACL and are raising all funds ourselves from individuals, organizations, JACL Chapters, and Districts. We will recognize people's donations in the written program at the following levels: Bronze ($100+), Silver ($250+), Gold ($500+), and Platinum ($1,000+). Since the Northern California-Western Nevada-Pacific District Council will handle finances for this ceremony, we are asking that checks be made out to "NCWNPDC/Resister Ceremony" and mailed to "NCWNPDC/Resister Ceremony" c/o 1580 Franquette Drive, Yuba City, CA 95991.
